iVoA - FOR THE CURVY LADIES...ITS ABOUT TIME!

A clothing store in Sweden is being hailed by women around the world after a photo of two surprisingly curvy mannequins were photographed and posted online.

More on Yahoo! Shine: Are These Plus-Size Mannequins Progressive or Just Weird?

Dressed in skimpy lingerie, the mannequins displayed softer stomachs, fuller thighs and generally more realistic proportions than the traditional department store models. For comparison, most mannequins in the U.S. are between a svelte size 4 or 6—a departure from the average American woman who is a size 14.

More on Yahoo! The Mannequins Are Watching You

On Tuesday, a blogger at Women's Rights News posted a photo of the department store mannequins to Facebook and the response was overwhelming. "It's about time reality hit..." wrote one out of almost 2,500 commentators. "Anybody saying these mannequins encourage obesity or look unhealthy, you have a seriously warped perception of what is healthy. I guarantee the "bigger" mannequin in the front there represents a perfect BMI" wrote another. As of Thursday, the photo had garnered almost 50,000 likes and shared almost 15,000 times. That's a lot of attention for a hunk of fiber glass and plastic.

There were rumors that the mannequins were on display at H&M in Sweden but a spokesperson told Shine: "The image is not from an H&M store. At this time, we are not using this type of mannequin, but we do not rule of the possibility of doing so in the future."

Mannequins have been around for thousands of years but their function in fashion is fairly recent, first appearing in store windows in the 1800s during the Industrial Revolution when window panes were installed in stores to display the latest fashion trends. Throughout WW1 and the Depression, mannequins changed their outfits and body proportions to reflect society at that time. Cut to the 1960s, when British mannequin firm Rootstein began modeling their dolls after pop culture and fashion icons to reflect runway trends at the time.

Modern-day mannequins have long been critiqued for having tiny proportions. In 2007, British health officials demanded that stores on London's fashionable High Street stop using stick-thin models in an effort to reflect the wide range of sizes and shapes of British women. In 2010, Club Monaco came under fire for featuring mannequins with protruding spines and clavicles. And in 2011,GAP was chastised by bloggers for mannequins with bone-thin legs modeling the "Always skinny" jeans display. “I'm wondering what the internal project name for this was at Gap HQ,” wrote one blogger. "Death-camp chic’? ‘Ana Pride’? ‘Famine fashion forward?"

And male mannequins haven't escaped scrutiny either. In 2010, Rootstein debuted male dolls under their "Young and Restless" collection modeled after teenage boys with 35-inch chests and 27-inch waists. The company had to defend its decision to use smaller models to eating disorders groups.

As much as the public contests these down-sized mannequins, when designers have attempted to create dolls that reflect real-life proportions they're met with criticism, even disgust. In late 2012, when a Reddit user posted a photo of an "obese mannequin" in satire, commentary ranged from "Ew, fat people", "It's embarrassing how obese America is" and the amusing, "He's not fat, just big foamed."

A recent published in the Journal of Consumer Research shows that women's self esteem takes a nosedive when exposed to models of any size, so maybe there is no easy answer. But as long as mannequins are influencing people to buy fashion, reflecting real-life bodies is a step in the right direction.

UHH - SPLIT ENDS???

Every girl needs a place to go when that time comes, what time? that time when those weaves goes off, and after washing and combing out your hair there comes that dreadful split ends. Here are some tips on how to manage your SPLIT ENDS.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Split ends are weakened areas along the hair shaft where the cuticle is breaking apart and the cortex of the hair is exposed. When hair becomes dry, brittle and under-moisturized without relief, the cuticle naturally begins to crack, chip and unravel. If left uncorrected, the split will worsen and begin exposing the inner cortex of the hair.
Depending on how the split end is situated on the hair shaft, a single split can unravel and travel quite a ways up the hair shaft. But most split ends simply peel away or break off near their starting points. The best way to get rid of split ends is to prevent new ones from occurring. Here are some tips for preventing split ends:
1. Trim Hair with Sharp, Quality Hair Shears
Trimming your ends regularly with sharp shears before they break off is great split end preventive maintenance. Clean cutting is very important to prevent split ends, and only sharp shears can guarantee a clean break. Make sure that your hair shears are only used on the hair. Using your scissors to clip coupons or to perform other random tasks will dull your shears.
2. Cut Hair Ends Straight Across
In addition to using sharp shears to maintain your ends, the direction of your trim is also important. Always snip straight across the ends of your hair, never at an angle. Angled trims increase the surface area of the new end and introduce more opportunities for splitting and breakage.
3. Avoid Wet Trimming
Whenever possible, trim your hair while it is dry. Some people prefer wet trimming, but this can lead to split ends, especially if the shears are dull. Think about cutting paper. Cutting wet paper does not give you as clean a cut as cutting the same paper dry. The same principle applies to your hair.
4. Reduce Your Heat
Heat is often the main cause of split ends resulting from physical hair trauma, because heat quickly reduces the hair’s natural moisture balance. Heat also temporarily alters the hair’s protein structure, which would typically keep the hair’s moisture balance in check. Repeated use of heated styling tools like flat irons and blow dryers should be avoided. If heat styling is a must, only use heat on freshly conditioned, clean hair that has been sprayed with a thermal protectant to prevent split ends.
5. Cut Out the Chemicals
Chemical processes like color treatments, relaxers and perms add spice to any style, but they must get deep into the hair’s cuticle to work their magic. Unfortunately, to get inside, these chemicals must break down and degrade the cuticle. When the cuticle is weakened, split ends are bound to appear at all points along the hair shaft. For color, stick with deposit-only colors and rinses.
6. Increase Deep Conditioning
Deep conditioning weekly with quality moisturizing conditioners and protein reconstructors is great for split end prevention. Protein treatments reinforce the cuticle and hair shaft so that they can resist premature chipping, peeling and breaking, while moisturizing deep conditioners help restore the hair’s delicate moisture balance.
7. Create a Moisture Barrier
Daily moisturizing with water-based moisturizing products and oiling the hair as a seal will also help prevent split ends. These products lubricate the hair fiber and keep the hair soft and supple. They also shield the hair from the harsh sun and other environmental hair stressors, like wind and humidity. Focus daily moisturizers and oils near the ends of the hair shaft, which are more vulnerable to split ends than the roots.
Ladies, how do you deal with split ends?
PS.
I got this tips from a website, can't remember which cos it being a while i got it. I hope the above tips helps you have the bouncy healthy shinning hair.
UHH - 4 moisturizers that are light but effective.
By Loo of Hair and Health
Finding a suitable moisturizer for thirsty, fine hair can be a challenge.  Heavy butters and oils can easily weigh down the thin strands.  On the other hand, extremely light moisturizers may not provide adequate moisture.  So what is a girl with thirsty, fine hair to do?  Well, below are five recommended moisturizers for your hair:
1. Oyin’s Hair Dew
WHAT’S IN IT: The Oyin Hair Dew contains purified water (moisture), castor oil (sheen, sealant), olive oil (moisture, sealant), organic aloe vera gel (moisture), and behentrimonium methosulfate (emulsifier, conditioning) among its top five ingredients. WHY HAIR DEW: The main ingredient in this product is water, which provides ultimate moisture to thirsty hair.  The other ingredients contribute sheen and more moisture while not being too heavy for fine hair.  Those with fine hair may like this product alone or under a light sealant.  This is the lightest moisturizer of the four listed in this article. WHERE TO FIND: www.oyinhandmade.com/
2. Curl Junkie’s Curl Assurance Smoothing LotionWHAT’S IN IT: The Curl Assurance Smoothing Lotion contains water (moisture), cetearyl alcohol (emollient, emulsifier), behentrimonium methosulfate (emulsifier, conditioning, moisture), vegetable glycerin (humectant), and elm extract (conditioning) among its top five ingredients.  WHY CURL ASSURANCE: The main ingredient in this product is water, which provides ultimate moisture to thirsty hair. The other ingredients provide moisture retention (glycerin) and conditioning.  Those with fine hair that is a bit thirstier may prefer this over Oyin’s Hair Dew.  This product will not weigh down the hair.  WHERE TO FIND: www.curljunkie.com
3. Karen’s Body Beautiful Super Silky Leave-in ConditionerWHAT’S IN IT: The Super Silky Leave-in Conditioner contains purified water (moisture), organic aloe vera juice (moisture), vegetable wax (emollient), organic coconut oil (moisture/sealant), and jojoba oil (sealant) among the top five ingredients.  WHY SUPER SILKY: This is another product with the main ingredient of water, which provides ultimate moisture to thirsty hair.  The other ingredients are combination of moisturizing substances and light oils/wax.  Though the product is called a leave-in conditioner, it can double as a moisturizer.  Like the Curl Assurance, it is also probably more favorable for thirstier fine hair than Oyin’s Hair Dew.  WHERE TO FIND: www.karensbodybeautiful.com/
4. Homemade Shealoe MixtureWHAT’S IN IT: The Shealoe Mixture can be made at home using pure shea butter (emollient, moisture) and pure aloe vera gel (moisture).  The proportions of the mixture for fine hair are 50% shea butter and 50% aloe vera gel.  WHY SHEALOE: This mixture will not weigh down fine hair or leave it feeling greasy like your basic whipped shea butter (whipped with heavy oils).  Mixing shea butter with aloe vera gel allows one to experience the softening and moisturizing properties of shea butter without the heaviness.  Shealoe is ideal for those with fine hair that is extremely thirsty.What are your favorite moisturizers for fine hair? be a challenge.  Heavy butters and oils can easily weigh down the thin strands.  On the other hand, extremely light moisturizers may not provide adequate moisture.  So what is a girl with thirsty, fine hair to do?  Well, below are five recommended moisturizers for your hair:
iVOA - LETS SAY IT AS IT IS! NO SHAKING.
    Out of the mouth of babes flows Wisdom says The Great Book (Bible), you never know where you will find the answers to all the ??? you find yourself faced with on your everyday living. But i tell you one sure thing i have heard great wisdom from the most unexpected places and persons, especially from kids. There is the saying that goes "kids say the darnest things"...i will say "kids say the darnest and true things".
     This page was inspired by LIFE and the zeal to always share positive vibes to those that appreciate what they have not what others have and they want....if you fall in this category i have just four words for you "IT COULD BE WORSE" so be thankful for what you've got and stop being an ass (sorry for using that word,but it has to be said). Constructive criticism, when you see something good or someone doing something good and positive appreciate it don't envy it, encourage don't discourage, say something uplifting to it don't badmouth or backyardmouth it and the most important use that good thing to encourage yourself to start your own positive vibes...let the love flow...share love and not hate.
Now, am gonna talk about something that has been bugging mi mind for a very very very very very lol very looooong time! and that is when a fellow brother or sistah hates on another ( if u ain't getting what am talking about am talking about blacks hating on blacks) What dah hell is that all about???, we should be standing up for each other and helping each other not pulling or backstabbing or badmouthing your own...common guyz! PLEASE I BEG UNA WITH GOD. for example lets look at the great one in a million Gabrielle D. who won gold in the recently finished Olympics, i couldn't just believe it when we all were so proud of her and all, some jobless knukkle heads were dissing on her hair omg! whats that about!..seriously???...     Ok, yeah i know some brothers and sistahs kind be such a disappointment or just plain dumb and lack character but what about those that are being the best that they can be, those pushing it through difficult and impossible situations and those that remain level headed, heads held high, strong spirited individuals. Those making the impossible possible. And seriously this is going out most especially to all the Diasporians (made that up), cos we sure s**t on each other for no darned reason and if u have a reason grow up and go talk it out with the person and if u ain't got the balls to do so then PLEASE shaa rraaap!
ON! - WHO IS SARA BAARTMAN? EVERY BLACK WOMAN SHOULD KNOW HER NAME!!!!
When 20 year old Sara Baartman got on a boat that was to take her from Cape Town to London in 1810, she could not have known that she would would never see her home again. Nor, as she stood on the deck and saw her homeland disappear behind her could she have known that she would become the icon of racial inferiority and black female
sexuality for the next 100 years.
THE LIFE AND TIMES OF SARA BAARTMAN is the fascinating story of this Khoi Khoi woman who was taken from South Africa, and then exhibited as a freak across Britain. The image and idea of "The Hottentot Venus" The term Hottentot is a negative Dutch phrase
formerly used to belittle the ancient Khoe people
of the South Africa.
After she died, Cuvier made a plaster cast of her body, then removed her skeleton and, after cutting out her brain and genitals, pickled them and displayed them in bottles at the Musee de l’Homme, a museum in Paris. Her genitalia and other body parts were on public display for 160 years until they were finally removed from view in 1974. In 1994, then President Nelson Mandela requested her remains be brought home. In January 2002, Baartman’s remains were finally returned to Cape Town to be laid to rest with a proper burial. Baartman became an icon.
In 1814 she was taken to France, and became the object of scientific and medical research that formed the bedrock of European ideas about black female sexuality. She died the next year. But even after her death, Sara Baartman remained an object of IMPERIALIST scientific investigation. In the name of Science, Cuvier made a plaster cast of her bodymade then removed her SKELETON after cutting out her BRAIN and VAGINA, pickled them and displayed them in bottles at the Musee de l’Homme, a museum in Paris. Her genitalia and other body parts were on public display for 160 years until they were finally removed from view in 1974.In 1994, then President Nelson Mandela requested her remains be brought home. In January 2002, Baartman’s remains were finally returned to Cape Town to be laid to rest with a proper burial. Baartman became an icon.
ON! - HAWAIIAN PIDGIN ENGLISH
Well, i am from New Nigeria West Africa and i was jaw dropped when i came across this vid. on Pidgin English, i definitely was sure that pidgin English was only spoken in the western part of Africa until i got to know about the Hawaiian pidgin English and this is not just a slang they speak, but it is their official language,waow! I was blown away and please don't yab me (YAB-Nig.Pidgin for-don't talk down on me) 'cos am just knowing this about the Hawaiian people. With this i feel very much close to them, the sisterhood feeling is being released right now to m people shai you dey sabi me so, i know no say oyinbo (white skin) dey speak broken (pidgin) English too.lol.
Seriously now, the Hawaiians identify themselves with this language, its a thing they are proud of  because it represents who they are. Way back during the 1870's immigrants from Spain, Korea, China, Japan, Portugal and Peurto Rico arrived in Hawaii by sea to work in the sugarcane plantation, and so because of the diversity of the people, a form of communication was of essence, naturally the English speaking residents picked bits of primary language. As more generations were born on the plantation, they began to acquire it as a first language, learning it in school, by 1920's pidgin English was the language spoken by everybody inn Hawaii and today its an official language for the Hawaiian people.
Gone are the days when pidgin is forbidden in some homes and schools in Nigeria, i remember well well speaking pidgin makes you automatically an illiterate or village pikin (child) as we say back home. But now its the real deal to speak pidgin. Nah so we am o!
Peace Out!....Now you don know.
ON! - I AM LOCO!
Nationwide (July 16, 2012) -- Here's a book unlike any other written on the subject of racism by a self-identified black racist. The author, Baye McNeil, is an African American living in Japan for the past decade. His sensational new memoir entitled: Hi! My Name is Loco and I am a Racist, has caught the attention of readers worldwide and has been causing an uproar in Japan since its release in January 2012.
The commotion has not been one of outrage, however. To the contrary, this passionate memoir has been called by readers, "one of the most honest, passionate, engaging and best written books about life in modern Japan for non-Japanese of any race," and has garnered rave reviews from readers worldwide.
McNeil was born and raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York where some of his earliest encounters with racism were as a child of the Pan-African / Black Power Movement. As a elementary student at a Progressive Pro-Black Family School in the 70s, between Swahili studies and Black History courses, his school's hands-on approach to "social studies" often placed him and his classmates, placards in hand, on the frontlines of protest marches, boycotts and demonstrations against everything from police brutality and shootings of unarmed black children in New York to apartheid in South Africa and corporate-sponsored civil war in Angola.
In the early 80s, while Disco was on its deathbed and Hip-Hop was a Rug-Rat in diapers, the author was a teen member of a notorious urban cult which touted black superiority in a volatile community fraught with racial tension, and whose membership rolls held such illustrious names as Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and Poor Righteous Teachers. The author takes readers on a scintillating and informative journey through the heart and soul of America as a US Army soldier, which he characterized as "a propaganda pressure cooker" yet "a brilliant way to address racial ignorance," and then back to NY for a bout with corporate bigotry as a University student in Brooklyn. It was at University that he experiences something so surprising and soul-rocking that it will racially alter the course of his life forever. At least, he thought so...then came Japan.
Prompted by his mind-altering experiences in the land of the rising sun, McNeil uses anecdotes and insights from both his youth and his years in Asia to highlight the insidious nature of racism, and the dangers of responding to it with apathy. In what the author describes as "an impassioned call to arms," he urges readers to reconsider how they view racism. He warns that "if racism continues to be demonized as a dark aberration that only 'evil' people, ignorant fools, or people lacking common decency are subject to, then it will remain at large, hiding in plain sight, in our schools, offices, carpools, living rooms and sometimes even in the mirror."
ON! - BRASIIIIL!
>>>When you mix music and sport...this is what you get..
>>>Neymar (Footballer) Brasil's golden boy, girls wanna be with him n guys wanna be him..hihihi and Michel Telo (Musician) one of Brasil's finest, he is a cutie. These two are great in what they do and they take their talent to a different level just for their fans. Michel Telo hit song "Ai se eu te pego" which translates "If i catch you" was and still played on radio, tv, street corners, buses and even old people's home lol. But then a twist was added when Neymar flexed to the song on tv, in the locker room and even on the field after a good goal. Putting this two on same stage was wild for the girls///. With a national dance anthem this song has been done in over five languages including English. Watch one of many vid. below :-
