K'NAAN SET TO PUBLISH CHILDREN'S BOOK

"WHEN I GET OLDER" which is the title of the book will be released in Canada and United States in hardcover and as an eBook. The story line is based on K'Naan global hit song "Waving Flag" and lyrics + music sheet of the hit song in a 32-page, full-color book illustrated by Rudy Gutierrez will be included in the hard-cover and eBook.
When I Get Older takes us into the life of K'Naan on his immigration to Canada and escape from the Somalian conflict. The 34years old talent and a proud father of two started his music career in a hard way while growing up in Somalia, in 1991 after the outbreak of the civil war his country, his family had to abandon their home to begin a new life in Canada.
The hit song 'waving Flag' was chosen by Coca-Cola as the promotional anthem for the 2010 FIFA world cup.
Here is what K'Naan had to say about his reason of writing for kids;

              'I think of empathy as a muscle in the soul, which develops through the nutrition we provide for it. The stories we hear as children can be that nutrition.'

              'I wanted to write a children's story that reflects the new immigrant's sense of family and identity, which can sometimes be lost in translation. In this book, the main character is 'Waving Flag' a song whose ownership has been long claimed by children all over the world.

The book's release will be out along with K'Naan's 3rd album 'Country, God or the Girl' on Tuesday, September 25, 2012.
